Tom Holland shared how he wore a thong under his Spider-Man costume

We’ve always wondered how superheroes avoid VPL (visible panty line) while wearing their skintight costumes. Now we know: Tom Holland revealed that he wore a thong under his Spider-Man costume, and he’s told us all about the experience.

We were already pretty excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming, but now we’ve seen the reviews the movie is getting, it’s jumped even higher on our agenda. We love that it seems to be a Marvel movie made for nerds (about time, right?), and that it appears to subvert tropes and prioritze diversity.

And, of course, we’re also excited about is to get an even closer look at Tom Holland’s Spidey suit.

In a new interview with Shortlist magazine, Holland has shared the lengths that he had to go to while wearing the iconic outfit.

“The first thing you need to know, all I have on under that costume is a thong. They brought them in on my first day, like, ‘Here are your thongs,’” he said. I had serious misgivings – would my arsehole ever be the same again? But I had to get used to it. Even though I was thinking no way, no way!”

Now, we know that wearing a thong can take some getting used to, so we’re not surprised that the actor was a little worried about the whole thing.

In fact, the whole process of getting dressed and undressed each day was quite an experience.

“You have to completely disrobe and then put a dressing gown on, but they’re very comfy ones, you can’t walk around in just a thong, can you imagine?” he said. “And then you race across the lot to the toilet, then come back, get back into it – it’s such a mission.”

When it came to drinking water while wearing the suit, the crew had to create a new contraption that would feed into the head of the suit. Of course, with drinking copious amounts of water comes the need the go the bathroom, which involved having to change and wear only a thong.“It was a very grave situation,” he admitted.

However, the actor says all the annoyances of the costume were well worth it.

“The suit really is a work of art, but wearing it is so unbelievably uncomfortable,” Holland said. “[But] any discomfort is immediately outweighed by the privilege of wearing it.”

You can check out Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming when it hits theaters on July 7th.
