Oscar-winning star Emma Stone knocked Jennifer Lawrence off the top spot on Forbes’ Highest Paid Actresses 2017. The star, who won best actress for her incredible role as a struggling performer in La La Land, made $26 million in pre-tax earnings in the year up to June, according to the tabloid’s annual chart.
La LaLand had been very generous to the 28-year-old actress. The movie also received rave reviews from critics and goosed it to $445.3 million at the global box office, which helped her top the latest list of Forbes.
Emma Stone Dethrones Jennifer Lawrence!
Her fellow Hollywood celebrity, Jennifer Lawrence, took the spot last year, thanks to her numerous famous movies. Fortunately, Stone’s performance as Mia in the musical juggernaut has brought luck to her career, boosting her earnings this year. After accepting her Academy Award, the actress revealed she knew what it was like to audition for several times.
Those auditions have finally paid off. Stone scored her largest annual take-home and now named as the top in Forbes’ Highest Paid Actresses 2017. Her similarity with her role Mia may have been just the right ingredient for her to succeed in the film. Last year, she spoke out about gender equal pay, revealing that her male co-stars had taken salary cuts so she could get equal pay.
Emma Stone explained, “That’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair. That’s something also not discussed, necessarily – that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, ‘That’s what’s fair.’” Apparently, her co-stars’ benevolent action did result to something great for the actress.
Other Stars Included in Forbes’ Highest Paid Actresses 2017
Jennifer Aniston was runner-up with $25.5 million. While the star continues to receive millions even a decade after Friends ended, she still gets regular roles in films such as The Yellow Birds. The 48-year-old actress also makes most of her earnings by endorsing the likes of Emirates airlines, Aveeno, and Smartwater.
Meanwhile, former top-ranked Jennifer Lawrence got the third spot in Forbes’ Highest Paid Actresses 2017, notching just over half her 2016 salary total. The Hollywood icon made $24 million. Without her Hunger Games, most of her paychecks came from upcoming thriller Mother!, Red Sparrow and her longstanding Dior.
Aside from Emma Stone, Jennifer Aniston, and Jennifer Lawrence, there are famous actresses included in the list, too. Melissa McCarthy ($18 million) and Mila Kunis ($15.5 million) made the top five. The rest of the names are Emma Watson ($14 million), Charlize Theron ($14 million), Cate Blanchett ($12 million), Julia Roberts ($12 million), and Amy Adams ($11.5 million).
